What Actually Drives CCTV Pricing

The number on a CCTV quote isn't really about the cameras themselves — it's driven by four things: how many cameras you need, how far cabling has to run, how much storage your recorder needs, and whether you want extras like battery backup or PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) coverage for a large open area.

Realistic Starting Costs

As a general guide for a residential system in our coverage area:

• A basic 4-camera system with standard cabling and a 1TB recorder typically starts around R4,500.
• An 8-camera system covering a larger property, with night vision throughout and battery backup, typically starts around R8,900.
• Business and estate systems vary more widely depending on PTZ cameras, cloud backup and access-level requirements, and are best quoted after a site visit.

Where the Real Cost Differences Come From

Two properties needing “6 cameras” can land on quite different prices. Cable run length matters — a camera on a detached garage 40 metres from the house costs more to wire than one on the main house wall. Storage matters — more cameras or longer retention periods need bigger drives.
